Well, I don't really know how to start this, so I guess I'll start from the beginning. I was born on March 31, 1980 in New Iberia, Louisiana. It's a nice little town in Southern Louisiana, and I call it home. I don't really remember very much from my early years, but my parents do have pictures of me urinating in various public places, so I assume that that was my favorite pastime. I went to preschool at this place called "Nanna's Day Care" or something to that effect. I know the lady's name was Nanna. Looking back, I think she may have had some sort of multiple personality disorder. In front of my parents, she'd love me, but when they left, I had to "kneel with my nose against the wall" (as she used to put it). You see, Nanna and I didn't agree about a few things (surprised?). She thought that I needed to take a nap everyday for 2 hours. I was a hyperactive 5 year old, and I did not want or need to take a nap everyday. So, I ended up punished everyday for not sleeping. You see, they were training us kids to need a nap everyday, and then when we entered real school, like a big cruel joke, they took our naptime away! Conspiracy?
So I finally graduated from nursery school, and we even had a little ceremony. My parents have a video somewhere. Fortunately, I didn't fall off of the stage like my brother Jacob did when he graduated. I'm working on getting a video of that on here. It's one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Anyway, I went to Dodson Elementary School. I don't remember much from there, except that in 2nd grade everyone used to call me "Kissy Poo" because I'd run around the playground kissing girls. I also remember kids picking on me for eating my boogers. In 3rd grade, I started taking piano lessons from Mrs. Lamadrid. She was my first music teacher, and inspired me to continue studying music. In 6th grade, I joined the band and learned how to play the bells. Now, everyone knows that dudes who plays bells are very cool and manly, but the kids in the band didn't "get the memo" ($1 to whoever wrote 'Office Space') about that one. So yes, that lead to more "Let's pick on Steven." But I'm not bitter.
I went to middle school at Belle Place Middle School. We had this really big and tall principal who was appropriately named Mr. Johnston. Whenever there was a fight in the school, he would get on the intercom and say (and I quote), "There is a fungus among us" (say it really fast, it rhymes). He would then break into his Al Sharpton style speech about how fighting was bad, etc. etc. I got my first girlfriend here: Sarah S. This, however, was not a normal relationship. You see, Sarah and I never called each other, or went on dates, or anything like that. So, 8 months later when I said that I wanted to break up, she said "OK" and that was the end of it. I was in the band here too, and even made the district honor band in 8th grade. I don't remember much else, except that I thought it was really cool that I could sit on a beanbag and read magazines during English class.
I went to high school at New Iberia Senior High. Go Yellow Jackets. Our football team was never very good, but the band was decent. We did well in the competitions and festivals that we attended, and placed 3rd at the state marching band championship one year (That sounds really funny now, but it was a big deal back then). In 10th grade, I was in my dad's biology class. It was funny because I called him 'Mr. Musumeche' instead of 'Dad.' My dad was the faculty advisor for the Science Olympiad team, of which I was a member. Science Olympiad is a very cool competition that takes place once a year where you compete against other schools in science/math type events. It's basically the Nerd Olympics, which explains why I had so much fun. High school was a fun time for me. I met my high school sweetheart, Mandy, and we dated for 2 years. After graduation, I took a senior trip to Orlando, FL for the DCI (Drum Corps International) World Championships with my friends Nick (who would later march with me at Carolina Crown) and Bart.
I entered college in the Fall of 1998 at Louisiana State University. At first, I was a double in music (percussion) and computer science. Then, I was just a computer science major. Then, I was just an ISDS major. Then, I was a double major in music and ISDS. My therapist says I have a fear of commitment. I think I'll stick with these 2 majors until I graduate.
In the summer of 1999, I played in the pit with the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps. If you know anything about drum corps, you know that its a very hard thing to do, physically and mentally. My rookie year was quite rough (though I did have fun), and I vowed to never march drum corps again. However, I got home and missed it alot. I ended up marching the next 2 years and aging out with Crown. I pretty much learned everything I know about music and performance from my teachers (Sandi Sheurmann and Paul Rennick) at Crown.
So that brings me to now. I'm 23 years old and I live in an apartment in Baton Rouge, LA. I just finished my 4th year at LSU and I'm hoping to graduate in December 2003 (for a grand total of 5.5 years). I work for The Grill Store & More doing internet marketing as well as web design & programming. I also co-own my own eCommerce company, Internet Retail Connection.
I love to play the marimba. I like classical, jazz, rock, folk, oldies, and lots of other types of music. Some of my favorite TV shows include Seinfeld, Southpark, Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show, Reno 911, Conan, and CNN. Some of my favorite movies include Saving Private Ryan, anything Monty Python, Schindler's List, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Office Space, Meet the Parents, and the Sandlot.
